The Problem
Hugo Health tasked me with developing Kindred, an anonymous digital social platform for members who share common health-related data including symptoms and diagnoses (specializing in long COVID). Kindred facilitates information sharing among its members, empowering them to distribute information for one another’s benefit, while also voluntarily contributing to vital research in partnership with leading scientists.

What action I took to solve the problem?
In the early stages of Kindred's development, I had the opportunity to explore new possibilities. To prioritize our users' needs, I used the Design Thinking process, which involves a hands-on approach to problem-solving. Through this method, I created an empathy map that served as the foundation for our key features.
By analyzing the empathy map, I identified four unique user profiles, each with its specific requirements. To ensure the success of our application, we must meet all of these needs across all profiles.
I generated user profiles and produced a range of documentation, including formal and informal materials such as whiteboard screen sketches and customer journey maps, which took into account the users' key requirements. These documents were then shared with production, development, and other key stakeholders to promote the uptake of a prototype.
We went through multiple rounds of prototyping and made revisions based on feedback from important stakeholders to create several versions of a branding guide and Kindred iconography. These designs were later integrated into essential screens. To avoid making the healthcare app appear intimidating and unwelcoming, we opted for a color scheme that included bright teals, oranges, and blues. We also added hand-illustrated elements to the design.
